In the first part of this series, I introduced you to the usefulness of the academic resume, and why you want to consider drafting one if you’re applying for graduate school this cycle. You know what basic information to include, but what should the finished product look like?

Using a template makes the format and style process of creating an academic resume easy as pie. Finding academic resume templates may be even easier than you ever imagined. You can find them pre-loaded on widely used computer programs. Creating your own academic resume is as simple as filling in your information.

Find Resume Templates On Your Computer

Did you know that there are hundreds of resume templates available on your computer? Using a resume template can be helpful when you need to create a resume for specific needs. When utilizing these templates, you can refine you search to view only student or academic type resumes. They tend to emphasize your education, internships, and extracurricular activities.

Try Microsoft Word and Google Docs, which both have samples to select from:

Microsoft Word 2010

1. Open Microsoft Word and click the File Tab.
2. Click New.
3. Notice the search box in the middle of your screen.
4. Type academic resume.
5. Press Enter.
6. Review the available academic resumes.
7. Single click any of the resumes to get a preview in the right preview pane.
8. Download the resume by double clicking or clicking the download icon.

Google Docs

1. Go to docs.google.com
2. Find Start A New Document.
3. Open the template gallery and expand to view all options available.
4. The preview pane will show several resume templates and formats. At the time of this post, there are 5 to choose from.

Using templates will give you a jumpstart to formatting your own product. Use as a guide and add your own details to personalize to fit your scholastic needs.
